Dr. Marcos Martin-Fernandez

Marcos Martin-Fernandez received the Ingeniero de Telecomunicación and PhD degrees from the University of Valladolid, Valladolid, Spain, in 1995 and 2002, respectively. He is currently an Associate Professor with the ETS de Ingenieros de Telecomunicacion, University of Valladolid, where he is currently teaching and supervising several master’s degree and PhD students. From 2004 to 2005, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Radiology with the Laboratory of Mathematics in Imaging and the Surgical Planning Laboratory, Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA, USA — thanks to a Fulbright Fellowship Grant. His research interests are statistical methods for signal and image segmentation and filtering in multidimensional signal processing. He also works in the application of mathematical methods to solve image processing problems. He is researching in the fields of magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasonic imaging, and electrophysiological signal analysis and synthesis. He is also with the Laboratory of Image Processing, University of Valladolid, where he is currently performing his research. He has authored more than 130 papers in scientific journals and conferences. He is a reviewer of Signal Processing; Journal of Neuroimaging; Pattern Recognition Letters; Computer Methods and Programs in Biomedicine; Signal, Image and Video Processing; IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging; Information Sciences; Computers in Biology and Medicine; Biological Procedures On-line; ISRN Machine Vision; Biomedical Signal Processing and Control; Computational and Mathematical Methods in Medicine; Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging; Digital Signal Processing; and Abstract and Applied Analysis. He also serves as a member of the scientific committee of the IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP); the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer-Assisted Intervention (MICCAI); the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing (ICASSP); the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI); the EURASIP European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO), the IEEE International  Symposium  on BioInformatics  and BioEngineering (BIBE); and IEEE Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition Workshops (CVPRW). His Hirsch index is 16, with more than 850 received cites.

He was a Research Fellow in the Laboratory of Mathematics in Imaging at Brigham and Women's Hospital. He has been awarded with a Fulbright Scholarship for a one year stay. He received his Master's and Ph.D. Degrees in Computer Engineering at the High Technical School of Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Valladolid, Spain, in 1995 and 2002, respectively.
