Real time 2D to 3D registration for ultrasound-guided endoscopic proceduresR. San Jose Estepar, C.-F. Westin, Kirby G. VosburghInternational Journal of Computer Assisted Radiology and Surgery Volume 3, Number Supplement 1, Pages S108-S109 2008 AbstractThis paper presents a real time registration method for preoperative CT and endoscopic US to support endoscopic and laparoscopic interventions. We propose a new method, named LEPART, based on Phase Correlation (PC). Traditional PC cannot be directly applied to our problem due to: 1) different phase spectra content between the signals to registered and 2) different signal dimensionality (our problem is a 2D-to–3D registration). LEPART (Low-pass spEctral Phase correlAtion with HaRmonic selecTion) tries to overcomes these limitations by processing the signal in three stages. The adequacy and accuracy of the proposed method for endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery has been validated by means of an abdominal ultrasound phantom. LEPART achieves a registration whose mean error is in the 1 mm range and may be a robust approach to multimodality image registration.ReferenceSan Jose Estepar R, Westin CF, Vosburgh KG.
